This is where I stopped as I ran out of deck screws and wood. After this pic I scrounged up two boards and some screws to provide support to the back.

The remaining not rotten wood.

it’s not rotted if it doesn’t have the heavenly reek of putrefaction

For some reason, I’ve had picnic tables on my mind recently. Probably not gonna build one this year, but I’ve been mulling over how I would build one.

I’ve already got the basic plans in my head, but the interesting part is the finished dimensions. See, I used to work at a campground that had a variety of different picnic tables that had to be relocated from time to time. Some of them were easier to move than others.

My favorites were the ones that actually fit in the bed of a pickup truck. I could back up to just a few feet away from the table, lift up the far end, tip it over into the bed, and slide it in upside-down. The seat slats would clear the wheel wells, and at 8 feet long, I could close the tailgate no problem. The whole thing just nestled right in there real nicely, and didn’t even have to be tied down at all. That always struck me as being the perfect design for a picnic table.

I found this table beside the road for free like 6 years ago. It was disassembled and packed into my PT cruiser. It did not fit in the PT cruiser well at all.

It ’s going to live by the fire so that’ll help dry it out and slow that process.
